CHENSHIA - A LOVE AFFAIR WITH AFRICA

The story of Africa and China is a long and interesting one, going back over 600 years when Chinese navigators first explored the African coastline. Their journey was immortalized on the Da Ming Hun Yi Tu produced in 1389 on a 17 square meter silk panel, a world map that prominently featured the African continent.

This exploration continued and intensified through the time of the spice trade when Asian merchants travelled to the east coast of Africa to trade spices, minerals and cultural items. This long history of mutually beneficial trade, and the spirit of exploration and adventure that goes with it, are as relevant today as they were in many centuries ago.
